Swiss Alps

Switzerland is nearly the size of Vermont and New Hampshire combined and has a population of 8,7 million people. It is a landlocked country that is a haven for travellers and families who want to enjoy sweepingly dramatic landscapes.

Why is Switzerland a great destination for families with kids?

Switzerland is clean, safe, has lots of green space and a huge amount of outdoor activities that make it a great vacation destination for families with kids. Home to glittering lakes, villages oozing charm, glaciers, waterfalls and lakeside hamlets nestled in the shadow of the craggy Alps.  Families with kids should visit the cities of Zurich, Geneva and Lausanne to enjoy the history and culture, and don’t forget the cheese, chocolates and clocks! Families truly wishing to immerse themselves in the culture should visit some of the more popular smaller towns in the Jungfrau region like Interlaken, Grindewald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Murren.

Switzerland is equally fantastic as a vacation destination in summer and winter. The same magnificent, wide, sweeping slopes that you traverse on your skis or snowboards are equally majestic by mountain bike or whilst hiking.

How long would you vacation in Switzerland?

If its your first time visiting Switzerland then 7 to 10 days would be perfect. This depends, of course, on whether you are visiting during winter or summer. A winter vacation will no doubt have you tied to one or two ski resorts whereas a summer vacation gives you greater freedom of movement. It’s hard to choose when is the best time to visit as it is so beautiful at any time of the year.

For 7 to 10 days we would recommend 2 to 3 locations – Zurich for a day or two, Bernese Oberland (Jungfraujoch, Grindelwald, Interlaken)and then Lucerne before heading back to Zurich to head home. Ten days and more could incorporate some time at Lake Geneva.
