Amalfi Coast Europe Italy Things to do

Activities to enjoy with your family in the Amalfi

Amalfi Coast

Visiting the Amalfi for the first time was quite an experience, there were 14 of us and we were traveling from Italy, the UK and Australia. We were all related, a multi-generational family with the youngest traveler being 7 years of age and the eldest at 70. (Did I mention that were all working with different exchange rates and traveling on different budgets?)

Being a travel advisor, I was used planning and frequently enjoyed 4 and 5 star accommodation and experiences. Trying to accomodate everyones budget we chose a small resort in Massa Lubrense (about a 15 minute drive from Sorrento). A lovely self catering accommodation with good amenities and services. To be honest, we all just wanted to spend time together so spending time at the pool, cooking together and exploring on our own were some of the highlights. Having planned hundreds of itineraries for families we have some activities that we know all families will enjoy.

  • Take time to enjoy the water, hire a boat or enjoy a boat trip for the day with your own skipper. If weather permits take the opportunity to visit the grottos and combine it with a trip to Capri. You can easily find time to have a fabulous lunch in one of the local restaurants.
  • Hike the Path of Gods and enjoy views that you will never see anywhere else in the world
  • Take a half day or a full day tour to Pompeii, if you have the time I would suggest a wine tasting and / or lunch along the way
  • Cook till your hearts content. there are so many cooking classes to choose from enjoy a private cooking class or experience a shared cooking
  • Take time to visit Mount Vesuvius
  • For all wine lovers take the time to enjoy a wine tour of the Campania region
  • Learn how to make mozzarella and let’s not forget limoncello
  • Enjoy the many sunset boat cruises, both private or shared
  • Take the opportunity to enjoy a ferry ride between towns along the Amalfi coast
  • Fish with the locals, catch and cook your own
  • For those of you that are more adventurous or have teens reaching adulthood, a great way to explore the Amalfi is on a Vespa scooter
  • And if you need more of an adrenaline rush try the zip lining in Furore
  • For more tranquility, enjoy the Ferriere waterfalls or the gardens in Campinola di Tramonti

Whether you are visiting to enjoy a romantic getaway; wanting to explore its history and culture; are looking for a fun and adrenaline filled vacation or just enjoy the beaches, food and wine then add the Amalfi Coast to your next visit to Italy.
